Our machine and methods
We have invested in a great machine called the I-gum. The i-gum's special lance has a built in LPG powered burner which combined with an environmentally friendly chemical vaporises chewing gum rapidly.
The gas is blown down into the burner lance using a fan to ensure the flame is not distinguished in windy conditions. This gives a continuous and reliable use. At the same time, the chemical is pumped into the burner where it is vaporised. When the vaporised chemical comes into contact with the chewing gum it breaks it down instantly into a non-sticky, liquid residue. This is then swept away. When it rains, any remaining residue will wash away leaving the area totally chewing gum free.
Before now there were only two other methods to remove chewing gum:
- Using a dry steam cleaner which required a noisy generator. This method means that they are cables and hoses trailing along the ground making it unsafe. In comparison to the I-gum this type of dry steamer is also very slow at removing chewing gum.
- The other alternative was to use a high pressure washer which also has trailing water hoses and cables, or used engine driven pumps which could be extremely noisy. This method created a huge amount of mess, uses a lot of water and the gum is not destroyed, only blasted off ending up somewhere else to get trodden on again.
The type of surfaces the I-gum machine can clean extend to hardwood flooring, soft flooring, doors, cabinets, plywood, concrete or steel.
The i-gum doesn't care where something has stuck, it will get the job done, no matter which surface it has been stuck to.
